It was Harry Reid who said it was okay for Congress to spend Social Security money on everything, but what is was intended for.

Reid has done everything to protect special interest groups and to protect partisan politics over the people of his own State.|||Social Security -except for a very few months at the beginning - has ALWAYS been a pay-as-you-go system. The surplus contributions are spent as part of the general fund.
The "trust fund" is smoke and mirrors, and constitutes a large part of the national debt from all the Boomer surplus contributions over the last 20 years.
The debt problem and the social security problem are one in the same. Pay the debt and Social Security could be paid back.|||How about citing a reliable source for his statements? Congress was using the SS trust fund for many years before Harry Reid became speaker which was 4 years ago.
