GAO auditers say we will not know if bail out works. So why spend $800 billion?

WASHINGTON 鈥?We may never know whether the government's $700 billion bailout of the financial industry worked, according to a new report from congressional auditors.

That's because it will be impossible to sort out which of the recent rule changes and spending programs have made a difference, according to the report released Friday by the Government Accountability Office

If they don't know if the bailout is going to work, why are we spending the money?|||You're talking about two different things here. The subject of the GAO report was the TARP bailouts of the banking industry. The currently pending legislation is a multi-pronged stimulus which includes infrastructure projects, public works and various other initiatives that have nothing to do with banks.|||Good point, let's just sit by and watch business shut down Americans lose their jobs, their health insurance, their homes, or apartments, and all the negative things that are happening today.

Great idea.
