How to make fa gao ( in english prosperity cake) without a steamer?

can I bake it?

If not, can I steam it by putting some water in a pan outside the cupcakes, put the cupcakes in, and then cover in foil

(same way how you steam pumpkins?)

tks|||Steam the same way you would steam anything, just remember you may need to raise what ever your using as the platform so the boiling water doesn't come in contact with the dough, any pot smaller then the outer pot will work using the top lip as your foot extension, both pots filled equally with water will boil. Fa Goa can be baked, steaming is "traditional".

Fa Goa

Ingredients:

鈥?2 cups rice flour

鈥?1 cup brown sugar

鈥?1 1/2 cups water

鈥?3/4 cup plain flour

鈥?1 tablespoon baking powder

Preparation:

Bring the water in the steamer to a boil.

Sieve the flour and baking powder together.

Add the sugar into the water and boil it till the sugar is all dissolved, stir constantly. Put the syrup aside to cool down.

Mix the syrup with the rice flour, stir and mix well. Add in the flour and baking powder mixture, stir and mix well.

Pour the mixture into mold's and place into the steamer to steam on high heat for 25 minutes.

Versatility Note:

The water in the steamer has to be boiling before the cup cakes are placed inside, and it has to be on high otherwise the cakes will not cook properly.

Do not open the cover of the steamer before it is done or it will affect the shape of the cake.

The colour of the cake would turn out golden brown if brown sugar is used. You can replace it with molasses if you prefer a darker reddish brown colour.|||Fa Gao Original Version:
