What is the name of the Chinese cake eaten during New Years in English? I've heard mochi cake and rice cake and I'm wondering which of the two is right or if neither of them are correct what is the English name.|||I've seen this in dim sum restaurants, they're called "rice cake" or "sticky rice cake".
I would not call it mochi cake since that's a Japanese term, but also mochi has a different consistency from nian gao.|||The sticky rice cake Nian Gao translates to "Higher Year"|||Chinese new year cake, or Chinese new year pudding
